Beat high cost of textbooks

Over a four-year college career, purchasing textbooks can add $4,000 or more to a student's expenses. During the 2003-04 school year students in Oregon and California spent an average of $898 on new and used textbooks, according to a survey conducted by a public interest group. Many universities around the country used similarly priced textbooks. Book costs are expected to increase by 10 percent a year, according to one publisher.
